The whole of year 11 was called into assembly on Tuesday morning. We all braced ourselves for trouble (we were usually only called in when someone had stolen/defaced something/set off the fire alarm). But as Mr. Simmonds face wasn't at all red and there was a distinct lack of pacing about, I soon guessed it must be about something else.
Mr. Simmonds announced that a new boy would be starting at the school, which wasn't exactly huge news. No-one seemed the least bit interested until he began to explain who it was.
The school buzzed all Tuesday afternoon with the news that Joe, the son of a legendary (read: old but rich) rock guitarist would be joining our year.
At lunch time the computer room was filled with people queuing up to post it on bebo. I half thought about emailing Jack. I mean it was a good reason to get in contact...it was exciting news.
When Wednesday morning came it was like walking into a different school. When Arleen met me in the concourse she raised an eyebrow: 'Is it prom today? Did I not get the memo?'. Surveying the scene a sea of girls stretched out, closely grouped and adjusting coiffed hair and lipgloss. The smell of perfume was overwhelming. It seemed like the female contingent of the school was a little overexcited about the arrival of Joe Rooke. But Joe didn't arrive that day or the day after.
So its back to life as we know it. Unfortunately.
p.s. Jenny tried to hand in the receipt for her prom dress to the committee treasurer on the grounds that it was 'as important as [she] looked good, as it was that the room looked good on prom night'. Alan is not exactly Mr. Assertive and Jenny looked like she was going to get her way until Katy slipped a note to the Head who quickly intervened and made it clear that 'no personal expenses can be charged to the prom account'. Jenny is such a moron.
